Tarifa has a unique vibe which has attracted artists, surfers & aristocrats alike over the years. Once bitten, forever smitten is a familiar tale for Tarifa regulars. It is a truly magical place. “The Wind Capital of Europe”, Tarifa is also the southernmost point on the continent. Morocco is just 14km across the Straits of Gibraltar. The view is spectacular. You are able to see 100´s of kilometres into the Atlas mountains – the colours changing throughout the day as the sun glides across the landscape.

An old Moorish settlement of Roman origins, Tarifa´s old walled-in town is dominated by the “Guzman El Bueno” medieval castle. Today, Tarifa´s narrow cobble streets are the meeting point of windsurfers, kite surfers and surfers from across Europe, a melting pot with a unique atmosphere where tradition meets hip.

Whether you are looking for the latest kite accessory or some new clothes that you know no one will have when you get home, this is the place to shop. A few miles outside town, the Roman ruins of Baleo Claudia in Bolonia – also a good kite surf spot – are well worth a visit. If you have time, we also recommend a 35 minute ferry ride across the water to Tangier, where you enter another world of souks, spice and rhiads.
